The Department of Trauma Surgery, Orthopedics and Plastic Surgery is one of the largest German university hospitals for the treatment of injuries and disorders of the musculoskeletal system. We provide treatment and advanced care for the entire spectrum of these diseases with state of the art methods in an interdisciplinary and interprofessional approach. As a certified supraregional trauma center, we treat patients with injuries of all severity grades and at all age groups twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week; constantly. Every year more than 900 polytraumatized patients are admitted to our emergency rooms. Our clinic is approved for serious injuries procedures by the respective professional associations. In addition to the treatment of acute injuries, we have a focus on the treatment of degenerative diseases and post-traumatic changes as well as on rheumatic diseases of the musculoskeletal system. Other department specialties include children's orthopedics, orthobionics, plastic surgery and tumor surgery. Our team of experts include 48 physicians and over 115 nurses who provide world-class care for more than 6,000 inpatients and 36,000 outpatients per year. As a university hospital, our physicians are also dedicated to science. Current focus of experimental research is the treatment of osteoporosis and novel approaches to stimulate fracture healing. As a result, our patients may directly benefit from the latest scientific innovations.
