In the afternoon of April 16, the 2021 Sino-German Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Video Conference & the 5th Spine Surgery Technique Training Course of Guiyang City & the Inaugurating Meeting of the Orthopaedic Disease Prevention and Control Committee of Guiyang Association of Preventive Medicine came to a perfect closure in the Lecture Hall on the 11th floor of the Orthopaedic Building of the Fourth People's Hospital of Guiyang.
Xian Lihua, Consultant (level 3) of Guiyang Bureau, attended the meeting and delivered a welcome speech. Yang Xiaoqiu, Secretary of Hospital’s Party Committee, the Fourth People's Hospital of Guiyang, Liu Jiong, Deputy Party Committee Secretary and President of the hospital, Long Shengli, Member of Party Committee and Vice President of the hospital, Chen Jian, Member of Party Committee and Vice President of the hospital, Xiao Jie, Director of Spine Surgery, Long Hao, Deputy Director of Spine Surgery and Zou Wei, Deputy Director of Spine Surgery, attended the meeting as well. Among them, Director Xiao Jie acted as the host of the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, attendees from both sides warmly greeted each other through an online way. Then on behalf of the Fourth People's Hospital of Guiyang, Liu Jiong, Deputy Party Committee Secretary and President of the hospital, extended a warm welcome and sincere greetings to Prof. Mayer, a worldwide minimally invasive spine master, Prof. Zhou Yue, Director of Orthopedics Department of Xinqiao Hospital of Army Medical University, and to other lecturers and friends who attended the meeting. He noted that with a purpose of deepening the academic exchanges in clinical medicine with our foreign colleagues, our hospital strives to take this video conference as a good opportunity for sharing knowledge, networking with fellow colleagues, and promoting advancement of spine community. He believed that Prof. Mayer, as a world-renowned spine expert, will bring us his brand new insights about minimally invasive techniques, which will definitely broaden our horizons. And he hoped that every attendee could gain something new from this international event. Later, Yang Xiaoqiu, Secretary of Hospital’s Party Committee and Liu Jiong, Deputy Party Committee Secretary and President of the hospital, together with other guests attended the inauguration ceremony of the Sino-German Communication Center for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery.
Then Prof. Zhou Yue gave a scientific lecture, titled “Innovation and Clinical Application of ZELIF” and invited all the guests onsite to share their opinions about this topic.

At 14:00 (CST), Prof. Mayer, a world-renowned spine expert, connected with his Chinese colleagues via video conference. He also gave an academic lecture, expounded on the Current Role and Perspectives of UBE/BESS.
What follows were another lecture presented by Long Hao, Deputy Director of Spine Surgery, which was about the application of CBT screw technique under navigation of MIDLIF technique and a case report of OLIF technique presented by Zou Wei, Deputy Director of Spine Surgery. Attendees onsite all actively participated in the discussion session and shared their opinions on the mentioned topics. And Prof. Mayer also gave his professional advice based on his years of experience.

At the end of the meeting, Prof. Mayer made a few concluding remarks, saying that he was honored to be invited in this Sino-German Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Video Conference, and was very glad to have this opportunity to see different challenging cases and discuss with his Chinese colleagues the optimal treatment solutions for patients with spine problems. On behalf of the hospital, Director Xiao Jie also thanked Prof. Mayer for taking the time out of his busy schedule to share his valuable experience with the Chinese audiences, and invited Prof. Mayer to come to Guizhou, China in person for further academic exchanges once the pandemic is over.
In 2006, Prof. Mayer founded the German Spine Society. In the future, more Chinese Grade III-A hospitals will become the most important strategic partners of the German Spine Society, and Prof. Mayer will bring the gold standard used in the German Spine Society to China in the hope that the spine community in China could be more standardized, specialized and internationalized.
