Welcome Speech by Prof. Chen Yongsong, President of the First Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College
Prof. Graichen noted that it was his honor to be invited to attend this meeting. After giving a brief introduction of Asklepios Orthopedics Clinic Lindenlohe, Prof. Graichen gave a scientific lecture to the audiences, titled “The hyperextending Knee/TKA - Analysis and Solutions”.
In his lecture, he emphasized that Genu recurvatum is a problem that needs meticulous diagnosis, and he further elaborated this topic by circling on four aspects, which are the classification, mechanism, diagnosis and solution of Genu recurvatum, and at last he deepened the topic by sharing us with a typical case.
Professor Hu Jun shared a case of post-polio with severe genu recurvatum、
The patient suffered from poliomyelitis at a young age and had muscle atrophy and weakness in his both lower limbs. After careful discussion and analysis of the patient's condition, the patient underwent an artificial knee replacement surgery and recovered quickly afterwards under the treatment of the team. The last follow-up shows that the patient is now able to take care of himself, walk with a crutch, drive himself to work and so on, which has greatly improved his quality of life!
Professor Hu Jun from the First Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College hosted the meeting and shared his case.
During the discussion session, Professor Graichen offered his insights and advice on the complex issues raised by Professor Hu Jun, such as stress wear, prosthetic loosening, fatigue fracture of the stem, and whether and when to intervene surgically in the knee and ankle joint of the opposite limb. He was confident that the prognosis for the case was very good and that the life expectancy of the artificial knee would be met.
The meeting was very instructive and turned out very well. Through this kind of online video conference, we can not only achieve academic exchange between Chinese and Western acclaimed specialists but also can bring significant improvement to joint specialty of the department!
