From December 19th to 20th, the 3rd Orthopaedics and Traumatology of TCM Summit, namely the 2020 annual meeting of the Bone Injury Committee of the China Medicine Education Association(CMEA) and of the Minimally Invasive and Intelligence-Study Group of the Youth Committee of the Chinese Orthopaedic Association(COA) was successfully held in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. The summit, held at Nanchang Hongdu Hospital of TCM, was jointly hosted by the Bone Injury Committee of CMEA and the Minimally Invasive and Intelligence-Study Group of the Youth Committee of the Chinese Orthopaedic Association(COA).

HUANG ZhengMing, President of CMEA and Academician of International Academy of Ecology & Life Protection Sciences(IAELPS), and Professor Mirco Herbort, Consultant Doctor (Knee Surgery and Sports Medicine) at OCM Clinic, Munich, Germany Munich sent video opening addresses. And the opening ceremony was hosted by FAN ShaoYong, Vice President of Nanchang Hongdu Hospital of TCM, and YAO Qi, Secretary General of the Bone Injury Committee of CMEA.

LONG GuoYing, Deputy Mayor of Nanchang Municipality, firstly delivered her opening address in the hope that orthopedic experts in Nanchang should cherish this opportunity to learn from and deeper communicate with the experts from home and abroad so as to achieve mutual consensus on building up a better medical environment for people, which is also hoped to be achieved by striving for Industry-University-Research Collaboration and promoting scientific research cooperation, innovation and translation. She hoped by all the efforts made, the medical quality of TCM hospitals in Nanchang will greatly improve and can satisfy people’s various requirements on medical services, which can be diversified, differentiated and individualized. She also said that Nanchang Hongdu Hospital of TCM, as the leading hospital in Orthopaedics and Traumatology of TCM, should continue to play its role to unite other hospitals together and further expand its influence through this summit, hoping that the hospital would establish a first-class reputation on Orthopaedics and Traumatology of TCM over the Jiangxi Province and even the whole country.
ZHOU QiuSheng, Deputy Director of Jiangxi Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese, said that now we are in the best time and at the best place to develop a better TCM-related medical environment, because Jiangxi Province has a long history of TCM with abundant TCM resources and many relevant talents. He hoped that medical professionals in TCM would make good use of their advantages to be devoted to inheritance and further innovation in TCM. He also hoped that as one of the best TCM specialized hospitals in Jiangxi Province, Nanchang Hongdu Hospital of TCM should continue to make efforts in its quality control, department development and talent cultivation, and fully play its role as a first-class TCM hospital to help to build up a good reputation for Jiangxi Province in its strength in TCM.
HUANG LiFa, Advisor of Nanchang Municipality and Second-Level Consultant of Nanchang Municipal Health Commission, according to whose speech, that all orthopedic experts should take the guiding principles from General Secretary XI JinPing’s major speech series and the spirit of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee as their guide, and follow the requests that came up from the 11th Plenary Session of the 11th Municipal Party Committee and the speech of Secretary WU XiaoJun, centering on "One Goal and Six Focus", to make their contributions to implement the strategic of building a healthier China, a healthier Jiangxi and a healthier Nanchang. And they should also actively unite the elites from all walks of life to cooperate together in the fields of medical research, academic exchanges and talent cultivation so as to show a fresh new look of TCM treatment on Orthopaedics and Traumatology.
QIU CiGui, President of Nanchang Hongdu Hospital of TCM, said that as the leader of the Union, the hospital would utilize the structure of deparments, improve the system of talent cultivation, innovate clinical treatment techniques, strengthen publicity of research results and establish sub-specialties with their own directions and advantages so as to increase core competitiveness of the hospital. What’s more, the hospital would be part with other hospitals of the Jiangxi Provincial Hospital Union on Orthopaedics and Traumatology of TCM to help to promote the inheritance and innovation of TCM and provide specialized TCM medical services for people of bone injuries.
HUANG ZhengMing, President of CMEA and Academician of International Academy of Ecology & Life Protection Sciences(IAELPS), sent a video opening address, saying that bone injury is not an uncommon orthopedic problem, thus it is necessary to keep standardizing the treatment procedures and innovating the treatment techniques so as to create a safer and more scientific treatment protocol for patients. This summit provides a good opportunity for medical professionals on bone injury to exchange their views and learn from each other. And he hoped that everyone can actively participate in this summit for communications and discussions on clinical diagnosis and treatments, which is beneficial for the development of Orthopaedics and Traumatology and the well-being of patients.
LIU LiMin, Chairman of the Bone Injury Committee of CMEA, said that today the Jiangxi Provincial Training Base of the Bone Injury Committee of CMEA is officially established in Nanchang Hongdu Hospital of TCM. He hoped the members of the committee would make good use of this platform to learn from each other and make progresses together in the future, and further acquaint the public with medical common sense, so that the people can know more about medical knowledge, which greatly contributes to the Healthy China 2030 Initiave.
DAI Min, President of the Orthopedics Hospital of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University, said that Nanchang Hongdu Hospital of TCM, as one of the Orthopedics Hospitals with the longest history in Jiangxi Province, has cultivated many excellent orthopedic experts for Jiangxi Province, and is now developing rapidly with a complete range of sub-specialization departments and that the Jiangxi Provincial Hospital Union on Orthopaedics and Traumatology of TCM will head to a better future under the leadership of Nanchang Hongdu Hospital of TCM.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Prof. Mirco Herbort was not able to attend the summit, so he sent us his congratulations and best wishes through an online way. In the video, he announced the establishment of the Sino-German Sports Medicine Exchange Center in Nanchang Hongdu Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Following the opening addresses, then Prof. LIU LiMin, together with Dr. HU HeJun, Director of the Department of Bone Injuries of Nanchang Hongdu Hospital of TCM, joined in the the opening ceremony of the Jiangxi Provincial Training Base of the Bone Injury Committee of China Medicine Education Association. And Mrs. FANG DanMin, on behalf of Prof. Mirco Herbort, together with Dr. ZHOU Ming, Director of the Department of Sports Medicine of Nanchang Hongdu Hospital of TCM joined in the opening ceremony of the Sino-German Sports Medicine Exchange Center.
Main Venue For Academic Exchanges
After the opening ceremony, the academic exchange session officially kicked off. There was one main venue and four parallel venues set up for the summit. A total of more than 70 experts on the care and treatment of bone injury across the country came to give their academic speeches. The summit lasted for half a day in the main venue, with a total of 9 well-known orthopedic experts presenting their lectures, and more than 400 domesitc colleagues attending.

In order to follow the guidance on prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic and to promote academic exchanges between different sub-specializations, this summit was separately held in other four parallel venues to control the number of participants, which included the Bone Injury section venue, the Joint and Sports Medicine section venue, the Spine section venue and Orthopedics and Pain Nursing section venue. The summit lasted for a day from December 19th in the afternoon to December 20th in the morning, creating a wonderful and fruitful academic feast for all the participants.

To guarantee the quality of the summit and ensure the participants could actually learn something from it, the summit in parallel venues was held with various sections, which were highlight lectures, case discussions and demonstrations on cutting-edge medical techniques. In the Bone Injury Section Venue, because humerus, femur and tibia are the sites that fracture often occurs, different kinds of Workshop demonstrations were presented accordingly, such as intramedullary nailing for humeral, femoral and tibial fractures, HTO osteotomy, nailing on calcaneus and so on. In the Joint and Sports Medicine Section Venue, the shoulder arthroscopy technique demonstration was presented. In the Spine Section Venue, fully visualized surgery techniques of Endo Love and Endo Surgi were also presented.

The Orthopedics and Traumatology department is the signature department of Nanchang Hongdu Hospital of TCM, with distinctive advantages and a profound history, strongly safeguarding the health of people in Nanchang city and its surrounding areas. In 2017, after the hospital took the lead in establishing the Jiangxi Provincial Hospital Union on Orthopaedics and Traumatology of TCM, it had organized many visits for orthopedic experts to their member hospitals of the Union for academic exchanges and technical guidance, and had set up a studio for doctoral studies. Additionally, the Union will regularly arrange orthopaedic experts to attend for consultation in different hospitals, which has effectively improved the quality of local traditional Chinese orthopedics treatment techniques and has gradually achieved a harmonized medical quality, which in return improves the satisfaction rate of patients. In recent years, Nanchang Hongdu Hospital of TCM has actively engaged in high-level academic exchange meetings both from home and abroad and continuously promoted the establishment of high-quality departments, which greatly expands its academic influence across the world and further help to realize its co-development in the fields of clinical research, teaching and scientific research. The hospital does present a fresh new look to the world as an outstanding expert on orthopaedics and traumatology - "Hongdu Orthopaedics”.
