On January 16, the Sino-German Video Conference on Neurosurgery was successfully held at The First People’s Hospital of Lianyungang. The conference was attended by Prof. LI Aimin, Party Secretary and Chief Expert of Neurosurgery of the hospital, Prof. SUN Yong, Vice Hospital President, Prof. LIANG Jingshan, Executive Deputy Director of Neurosurgery, and the neurosurgery team. The event featured a keynote lecture by Prof. Rohde, Director of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University Medical Center Göttingen and President of the German Society of Neurosurgery, focusing on spinal arteriovenous pathologies. During his lecture, Prof. Rohde provided a detailed overview of the pathomechanism of spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas and spinal arteriovenous malformations, based on his clinical experience with the latest research data. He offered an in-depth analysis of the advantages and limitations of surgical treatment and endovascular embolization in managing these pathologies. Prof. Rohde particularly emphasized that in the treatment of spinal arteriovenous pathologies, especially spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas, surgical intervention should be considered the first-line treatment option. His lecture not only deepened attendees’ understanding of spinal arteriovenous pathologies but also provided new perspectives for future treatment strategies. The interactive session that followed sparked lively discussions among participants, who engaged in in-depth exchanges on topicas such as radiotherapy for spinal arteriovenous pathologies, intraoperative tips and tricks, and outcome evaluation. Subsequently, Prof. LI Aimin delivered a keynote lecture titled “Selection of Recipient Vessels for Direct Revascularization in Adult Moyamoya Disease” in English. Prof. Rohde highly acknowledged Prof. Li and his team at The First People’s Hospital of Lianyungang for their expertise and extensive experience in treating adult Moyamoya disease. He expressed his anticipation of maintaining long-term contact with Prof. Li’s team and of visiting China in the near future for face-to-face discussions to further advance Sino-German cooperation in neurosurgery. In his concluding remarks, Prof. SUN Yong expressed gratitude to Prof. Rohde for his insightful lecture and valuable clinical experience. He noted that despite the geographical distance between China and Germany, modern technology has enabled such in-depth academic exchanges, which are of great significance to the hospital’s clinical practice and specialty development. The successful organization of this conference not only reflected The First People’s Hospital of Lianyungang’s strong foundation in international academic exchange but also provided crucial academic support and resource sharing for the hospital’s future development in neurosurgery. Looking ahead, the hospital aims to further strengthen its cooperation with the University Medical Center Göttingen, promoting more academic exchanges and talent development to make outstanding medical professionals more visible in an international perspective.
