Surgical Instructions

On the morning of November 12th, Prof. Grim arrived at the Department of Sports Medicine, Shenzhen Second People’s Hospital, where he discussed the basic condition of newly admitted patients with the core members of the surgical team. He reviewed the patients’ medical history and imaging data, and participated in discussions regarding the treatment plans.

Subsequently, Prof. Grim, accompanied by Director LU Wei’s team, participated in surgical guidance. Prof. Grim instructed several surgeries performed by the team, including ACL and PCL reconstruction, Bankart lesion repair with rotator cuff repair, and repair of recurrent shoulder dislocations. In his instruction on the key techniques for Bankart lesion repair, Prof. Grim emphasized the importance of the anchor fixation entrance points and angles. The control of these entrance points and angles is typically monitored by C-arm intraoperatively. However, Prof. Grim’s research team is also exploring using ultrasound imaging for precise localization of the entrance points and angles of the anchor. Ultrasound imaging is a widely used medical device in clinical practice, and if it can be introduced into the OR for precise pinpointing of the entrance points during Bankart lesion repair, it would be an intraoperative imaging control that's well worth promoting. Regarding arthroscopic ACL and PCL reconstruction, Prof. Grim shared that he tends to preserve the remnant of ACL when possible, but for PCL reconstruction, he prefers removing remnant rather than remnant preservation.
