Professor Shisheng He is a famous minimally invasive spine surgery expert in China. He is one of the most experienced experts in the field of minimally invasive spine surgery. He is currently one of the experts who perform the most intervertebral disc intervention ablation, PELD, MED, minimally invasive approach, minimally invasive percutaneous internal fixation and microscope assisted cervical spine surgery. He has done a lot of groundbreaking work in minimally invasive spine surgery, instrument design, doctor training, scientific research, and established the first center in East China which focuses on training and research of spine diseases.
Professor He was awarded with the title Top 100 Chinese Famous Doctors for two consecutive years.
Professor He went to Schön Klinik Munich Harlaching twice in 2013 and 2014 and co-authored Minimal Invasive Spine Fusion with Professor Mayer.
Professor Mayer was invited to the Orthopedics Department of The Tenth People's Hospital of Tongji University with the topic "35 Years Development of Minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery". He introduced the history of the Schön Klinik Munich Harlaching and his personal special achievements to the participants.

After Professor He's summary of his long-term clinical experience and careful research, he invented and designed world's first angle-adjustable cervical vertebra tractor and had patent (patent number: 200720074436) for it, making cervical spondylosis traction treatment more effective and convenient.
Professor Shisheng He took the lead in establishing a microscopic-cervical surgery training center in China, and introduced the surgical microscope into the cervical spine surgery, which made the cervical spine surgery safer and more effective, and improved the efficacy and safety of the surgery.
During Professor Mayer's visit to the Tenth People's Hospital, a patient was admitted to the Orthopedics Department, and the patient's condition suddenly changed severely. Professor He invited Professor Mayer to go to the inpatient ward to see the patient in person.
Professor Mayer's arrival made Professor He very happy, the meeting of teacher and student was extraordinarily delightful.
The earliest predecessor of Changzheng Hospital's spine surgery department was the Emergency Surgery Hospital established in 1955. At that time, the hospital only has orthopedics department and general surgery department, and the famous orthopedic expert Kaiyuan Tu was Hospital’s president and the director of orthopedics department.
In December 2002, it was officially opened as Changzheng Orthopedics Hospital, becoming one of the earliest internal hospitals. As the most influential spinal surgery deaprtment of hospital, it was recognized as the leading medical key specialty in Shanghai in 1995. In 2002, it was recognized as Shanghai Clinical Medical Center for Spinal Surgery.
The Spine Surgery Department of Changzheng Hospital has become a national top treatment base, talent training cradle and source of advanced academic thinking.
At present, the Orthopedics Department of Changzheng Hospital is the largest spine surgery department in the hospital and the leader of this specialty in China.
